Remote Acoustical Mine Neutralization Using Back-Propagated Shock Waves
نویسنده
چکیده
LONG-TERM GOALS The feasibility of using focused shock waves for mine neutralization requires detailed understanding of nonlinear wave propagation in water. This project investigates several fundamental issues of nonlinear acoustics when the primary source configuration is a discrete array of intense sources. Questions addressed through the theoretical analysis and an experimental effort concern the applicability of linear superposition and beamforming for performance predictions.

Numerical Investigation of the Effect of Bubble-Bubble Interaction on the Power of Propagated Pressure Waves
The study of bubble dynamics, especially the interaction of bubbles, has drawn considerable attention due to its various applications in engineering and science. Meanwhile, the study of the oscillation effect of a bubble on the emitted pressure wave of another bubble in an acoustic field which has less been investigated. This issue is investigated in the present study using the coupling of Kell...
متن کاملTemporal coherence of the acoustic field forward propagated through a continental shelf with random internal waves.
An analytical model derived from normal mode theory for the accumulated effects of range-dependent multiple forward scattering is applied to estimate the temporal coherence of the acoustic field forward propagated through a continental-shelf waveguide containing random three-dimensional internal waves. The modeled coherence time scale of narrow band low-frequency acoustic field fluctuations aft...
متن کاملExperimental observation of azimuthal shock waves on nonlinear acoustical vortices
Thanks to a new focused array of piezoelectric transducers, experimental results are reported here to evidence helical acoustical shock waves resulting from the nonlinear propagation of acoustical vortices (AVs). These shock waves have a three-dimensional spiral shape, from which both the longitudinal and azimuthal components are studied. The inverse filter technique used to synthesize AVs allo...
متن کاملTransition scattering in stochastically inhomogeneous media.
When a physical object ("a source") without its own eigenfrequency moves through an acoustically homogeneous medium, the only possible form of acoustic radiation is the emission of Mach shock waves, which appear when the source velocity surpasses sonic speed. In nonhomogeneous media, in nonstationary media, or in the neighborhood of such media, the source motion is accompanied by the so-called ...
متن کاملNonlinear propagation of spark-generated N-waves in air: modeling and measurements using acoustical and optical methods.
The propagation of nonlinear spherically diverging N-waves in homogeneous air is studied experimentally and theoretically. A spark source is used to generate high amplitude (1.4 kPa) short duration (40 μs) N-waves; acoustic measurements are performed using microphones (3 mm diameter, 150 kHz bandwidth). Numerical modeling with the generalized Burgers equation is used to reveal the relative effe...
